Over 200 Years of History Ties Weaver Family to Arden's Cascade House
In 1792 when Henry Weaver first set eyes on what is now Arden, West Virginia, the mountain land gave him confidence to settle there. Many generations later the land has served the family well, producing hunters, farmers, soldiers who fought in the Civil War and World War I, a powerful coal miner, a distinguished pilot, and most recently three siblings: an attorney, a physician, and an engineer. The cascading waters of the Tygart River and mountainside serenity inspired the trio to "let out the best kept secret in Barbour County."
Shaun Weaver McKee, MD, a radiologist with two children grew up as a white water river guide on the Tygart and married her "Med-school sweet heart" John McKee, MD, in Arden in 1989. "When Dad (Steve Weaver) offered the Cascade house to us, I didn't know what to say or do." Shaun decided to purchase the home and turn it into a tranquil vacation getaway available for rental. "The home is incredible!" she said. Her description befits the three bedroom, two and a half bath home along side cascading rapids of the Tygart, hence the name Cascade.
Cascade was built by Steve and Barbara Weaver in 1981. The home was designed by the Weavers with massive screened and unscreened decks for entertaining. There is an indoor hot tub to relax in after long hikes along the river or up into the hills. There are windows everywhere including the roof skylight windows that enable unparalleled star gazing even while lying in the master bed. "The only thing that we didn't go for out here was TV," remarked Steve Weaver. Barbara Weaver, the co-architect of Cascade, actually participated in the construction as well. She detailed the design features including its unique windows that she discovered while vacationing in Europe.
